Different Traits

One of the most unique parts about crested gecko morphs and why they are frequently sought after is because they come in a myriad of different colors that often feature interesting designs. From spots and stripes to “phantom pinstripes” and tiger patterns, no two crested geckos are entirely alike. These styles are labeled with different names like “harlequin,” “yellow tiger,” and “flame” crested geckos, just to name a few.

Colors Can Change With Mood

An interesting aspect of a crested gecko physiology is that they have the ability to change their color depending on their mood or changes in their surrounding environment. Usually, this is brought on when they are in a state of high alertness — this is known as a gecko “firing up.” Interestingly, when they calm down or are sleeping, generally at night, they “fire down” where they transition to a darker color.

Diet

A crested gecko morph’s diet consists of several different types of food in order for them to obtain all of the nutrients that their body needs to stay healthy. A couple of times each week, crested geckos should be provided with vitamin-enriched crickets, mealworms, Dubia roaches, and waxworms. This should be supplemented with crested gecko powder that is mixed with water and is full of nutrients. As a treat, they also enjoy soft fruits or fruit-based baby food.

Preferred Environment

If you are constructing an environment for your crested gecko, there are a few things that you need to consider:

  • Adult crested geckos need at least a 20 gallon tank.
  • During the day, the temperature should be kept at 75–82°F.
  • In the evening, you can lower the temperature to 68°–75°F.
  • Geckos need branches so that they can climb and a shelter where they can hide.
  • Their environment should be kept between 70% and 80% humidity.
  • You must turn their light source on and off to match a natural light cycle.

These are just a few of the necessary aspects of an environment where a crested gecko can thrive. When you purchase your gecko, we will provide you with all of the information you need to properly care for your new pet!
